Welcome Message from The Head of Department- Computer Engineering
The Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Calabar welcomes and thank you for visiting its web portal. The Department of Computer Engineering is an illustrious member of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology family that was approved by the Senate of the University of Calabar to start full academic activities in the 2016/2017 academic session. The young Department, then, operated from the Department of Physics Complex while waiting for construction work to be completed in its permanent site located in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology complex. The entire University is very excited and proud of the immense accomplishments of the young Department. All our activities and programs are closely monitored by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria.
The entire University of Calabar is located in an environment that promotes academics, supports learning, and challenges them to develop their thinking power. The Department offers a range of exciting undergraduate programs that lead to the award of an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering to successful students. We have a world-class team of academic, administrative, and technical staff with huge teaching and practical experiences in computer engineering, who are well motivated to teach and share their experiences with students. Our course curriculum is rich and flexible to keep track of the latest developments in the dynamic computer world. Our students are taught to be firmly grounded in both theoretical and practical knowledge of computers thereby acquiring knowledge and skills, and therefore develop and competencies experience that will make them be innovative and outstanding professionals in their future practices.
We have state-of-the-art equipment and tools in our modern and high-end laboratories. Our excellent research efforts, which have recently attracted a patent, are not only innovative but also, groundbreaking. Our students are richly exposed to teaching and learning in all aspects of computer technology including software and hardware development, computer architecture, computer networking, embedded systems, and cybersecurity. The Department is still fine-tuning its collaborative arrangements with various industries and private organizations in providing computer solutions.
We encourage you to study our site and get more information about our exciting programs and activities that will help you in making a decision. We look forward to welcoming you or your loved one to our Department.
Thank you for visiting.

Mission / Vision / Philosophy / Objective
To shape and mold students with the required skills and knowledge necessary to propel them for further studies, job creation and meaningful contributions while providing an environment for excellent teaching, learning, and research.
To produce the best manpower in academic and computing industries with a stronger impact in our targeted areas of research in order to attract national and international students’ recognition worldwide.
Using a hands-on-approach that incorporates practical laboratory sessions and project-based learning, we aim to develop students who are well equipped with the right knowledge for both hardware design and software development in computer engineering.
To promote world class research with absolute commitment to excellence in teaching. To become a world-class student center department with the highest educational quality and high standard for both undergraduate and graduate students. The programme is structured to ensure that graduates have a clear understanding of the design and the applications of computer, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge throughout their professional careers.
Computer engineering integrates the fields of computer science and electronic engineering to develop computer hardware and software. Computer engineers usually have training in electronic engineering (or electrical engineering), software design, and hardware-software integration instead of only software engineering or electronic engineering. The Department is one out of the seven Departments in the faculty of Engineering and Technology in the University. The department started in 2016 with a mandate to lead current trends in education and research to steer and foster development.
