About Mr. Linus Ajikah Bashie

Linus B Ajikah is a Lecturer II in the department of Plant and Ecological Studies (PES) formerly Botany, University of Calabar, Nigeria. He obtained his M.Sc and PhD in Botany with a specialization in Palynology from the University of Lagos, Akoka Lagos Nigeria. He also graduated with a B.Sc in Botany in Botany from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. He is currently a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg South Africa. He is passionate about Paleobotany, Palynology, Aeropalynology, Paleoecology, Plant biodiversity, Forensic science, Bioconservation and Climate change, his research interest is focused on paleoecological investigations of reconstructing past vegetation, paleoenvironmental and climatic changes across ages over time, especially the Quaternary and Holocene periods. He also researches the problems associated with sustainable public health in cities or towns, by monitoring the seasonality in atmospheric distribution and dominance of allergenic airborne pollen and spores and their implications for public health. Ajikah has accomplished several studies on Palynology, Paleoecology and Plant Biodiversity across the Lagos coastal environment LCE of Nigeria. As a research team member, he has won 3 grants and 2 fellowships. He is currently a research team member on a GBIF-BID-funded project on the implementation of a Biodiversity Information System for the Coastal Ecosystem in Nigeria where he has mobilized 28,000+ plant specimens from Southern Nigeria to the GBIF database. He has registered and been hosting the University of Calabar on the GBIF data-sharing engine since 2022 https://www.gbif.org/dataset/397646fe-2a1f-4f1a-8c67-1640fde10d13. He has several publications in learned journals. His research on monitoring, analyzing, and counting the weekly/monthly allergenic airborne pollen and spores in the atmosphere received a wider acceptance leading to the formation of the South African Pollen Monitoring Network (SAPNET), aimed at monitoring airborne allergenic pollen and spores in cities across South Africa since 2019 https://pollencount.co.za/. His goal is to become a renowned researcher, attain professional distinctions and proficiency by solving real-world challenges through research, promote an atmosphere of collaborative scientific research, share knowledge, and strive for excellence and precision in helping humanity.
