About Dr. Ekama Derrick Elemi

Dr. (Mrs) Ekama Derrick Elemi started her career at the Department of Crop Science, University of Calabar on August 2, 2019 shortly after bagging her Doctorate Degree from the prestigious Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi State. Before her appointment, Dr. Ekama Derrick Elemi served as part-time Lecturer at Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe State, Nigeria. Ever curious and eager to learn, little Ekama started her education at St. Theresa’s Primary School, Ugep, Cross River State and obtained her First School Leaving Certificate in 1989, she then went to Community Secondary School Ugep, for her Secondary education where she passed with flying colours, that saw her gaining admission to study Crop Science at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Shortly after her graduation in 2004 with Bachelor of Science, Agriculture, one would have expected her to rest on her Lurel, but not Ekama, she then proceeded to obtained Certificate in Information Science in 2005, PGDE in 2007 from Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto after which she proceeded for her Master of Science at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi in 2013. As a result of her commitment and dedication to her father land, she was Awarded two Certificate of Honour by both the Bauchi State Government and Federal Government of Nigeria in 2004/2005 National Youth Service. She has been diligently discharging her duties as a Lecturer II at the Department of Crop Science, University of Calabar. She has published scholarly research articles in both local and international peer review journals. Dr. Ekama, has attended and presented papers at both local and international conferences. She has initiated and implemented community services aimed at guiding farmers on sustainable cultural practices at her home town Igbo-Imabana in Abi L.G.A of Cross River State since 2019. She is presently carrying out a Research project on Verticultural production of Maize (Zea mays) as affected by varying rates of organo-mineral fertilizers in collaboration with other scholars and experts in the field. Dr. Ekama is a member of many professional bodies, which include, but are not limited to the following – Farm Management Association of Nigeria, Horticultural Society of Nigeria, Crop Science Society of Nigeria among others. Dr. Elemi as she is fondly called by her colleagues and associate is happily married to her heartthrob, Mr. Derrick Elemi and the marriage is blessed with four smart youths.
