Research and Quality Assurance
This Policy on Research Administration and Practice has been developed arising from the need to provide a comprehensive set of guidelines for the management and conduct of research in the University. The Policy is driven by our desire to sharpen the competiveness of the University of Calabar in grantmanship and managing research funding obtained nationally and internationally with the overall goal of attaining excellence and integrity in the conduct and administration/ management of research by all staff, students and associates of the University. The policy provides clear guidelines on the sourcing and management of research grants and processes for transparent monitoring and documentation to the satisfaction of the University administration and the grantors themselves.
As dictated by our Mission and Vision, the University of Calabar is committed to the generation of new knowledge through research. Our focus as an administration, in addition to basic research, is on problem-solving, practical result-oriented research designed to address and solve the major national and international issues of the day.
This Research Policy Document is intended to focus and direct our research practice to ensure that all efforts at undertaking research follow established rules and procedures and give confidence to funding agencies on the management of our research as an institution. The Directorate of Research, whose mandate was recently expanded to include the issues of Quality Assurance within the University, is charged with the coordination and implementation of the provisions of this Policy.
The administration of the university places great premium on research recognizing the cardinal role it plays in the life and functioning of a University. The policy is, therefore, binding on all staff of the University be they full-time, part-time or adjunct, students and all who do business with the University.
This is the first comprehensive Research Policy Document of the University of Calabar. Necessary revisions and amendments shall be undertaken as the need arises from time to time. Such reviews shall be in line with established national and international benchmarks/ guidelines in research practice and administration.
I enjoin all to give life to this document to the benefit of research practice and administration in our great institution.
