The Vice-Chancellor
Prof. James Epoke was born on 21st April, 1954. He had his First School Leaving Certificate in 1964 at Imabana and his secondary school education from 1965 – 1971 at Community Secondary School Ugep where he obtained his WASC Certificate with flying colors in Division 1.
With such brilliant result, he pursued his tertiary education. In 1974, young James secured admission into the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and obtained B. Sc. (Microbiology) with Second Class (Upper Division). In 1983, he obtained his M. Sc. (Microbiology) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and bagged his Ph. D.(Medical Microbiology) in 1990 from the College of Medicine, University of Calabar.
Prior to his appointment, Prof. James Epoke has served the University in various capacity as Head of Department, Sub Dean, Member of Senate, Chairman of ASUU Strategic Plan Review Committee (2007 -2010), Chairman of University of Calabar Senior Staff Club Electoral Committee (2004 - 2010), Dean, Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, Member, University of Calabar College of Medical Sciences, Board of Governors and Member of council.
Prof. James Epoke has also served his state at various levels as member of the state Onchocerciasis Programme, Disaster Relief Committee, State Transition Committee on Health, State Opinion Leaders for the Resolution of Niger Delta Crisis and National Expert Committee on Serological Surveillance (1993 - 1999).
