The Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Calabar has felicitated newly promoted Professors in the faculty for their academic strides.
Expressing delight over the promotion of some lecturers to the rank of Associate and full Professors, the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Ndiyo Ayara, addressing the Quarterly Board meeting of the faculty said the occasion calls for celebration and re-dedication to duty.
He said their promotion was as result of their wealth of academic experience and consistent commitment shown in the discharge of their official duties evident in classroom teaching, research and several publications.
Prof Ayara hoped that the promotion will motivate staff to work even harder so as to enhance the overall efficiency of the Faculty, adding that the younger lecturers should look up to them for Mentorship.
He commended the painstaking efforts of the Faculty Central Appointment and Promotion Committee for their recent recommendation of approval for the promotion of Academic Staff in the five departments adding that the committee comprises all the Professors in the Faculty.
The recommended promoted Associate Professors for the approval of the rank of Professorship include; Frances N. Obafemi – Department of Economics, Ajake Anim Obongha – Department of Geography and Environmental Science, C.O . Oduk – Department of Political Science, as well as R.P. Abia and Walter Mboto both of the Department of Sociology.
Similarly, those promoted to the rank of Associate Professor include Eja Iwara Eja – Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Felix O. Eteng and Agbor I. Uno - Department of Public Administration, while Okorie K. Osunwa, Grace Etuk and Judith Otu are of the Department of Sociology.
The very colourful occasion graced by staff from all six Departments that make up the faculty, as well as representative of other faculties, Departments and units featured feature cutting of cake and taking of photographs with the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Ndiyo Ayara.
