The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu has reaffirmed his stand towards good Governance and Staff Welfare.
The VC made this known in a meeting with the Interim Executive of SSANU, University of Calabar Branch where he approved the formation of a five member joint MANAGEMENT – SSANU Committee to look into all the issues surrounding pension and deduction of staff salaries. Prof. Zana who congratulated the interim Executive members on their appointment pledged to continue his course of good governance to the betterment of all staff of the University. ” I am here to serve and to bring the needed change the University need. If we must succeed, then all issues need to be resolved. Hence, the formation of the five member joint Committee to find quick solutions to the pension deduction and other issues”. He said.
He promised to accord the interim executive full recognition as the
banafide representatives of the Union in Unical. On the backlog of the
over time arrears, the Vice Chancellor disclosed that only ten(10)
percent of the arrears were outstanding and promised to clear it as soon
finances of the University improve.
In his earlier address, the Chairman of the interim Exco, Mr. Richard Ita, had presented a list of welfare items for the attention of the Vice Chancellor. The issues on the list includes pension deduction, promotion implementation, overtime arrears and release of 2017 appraisal forms for staff promotion.
Also present at the meeting were the Registrar of the University,
University bursar, other members of the interim Exco of SSANU-UCB, S. A
Labour and Chairman, Board of media and community relation.
