I, Professor James Epoke, the Vice chancellor of the University of Calabar hereby use this opportunity to welcome all students of the Institution into the year 2012. It is my fervent hope, prayer and aspiration that this year will bring the much needed breakthrough required to take the University to the next level.
The memorable event of last year is now a watershed in the annals of the history of the Institution. As a progressive community, we have put that grave occurrence behind us and now looking to a future which we will collectively develop.
The management of the University under my leadership has carried out extensive renovations in the Hostels, Classrooms and Laboratories. This is in keeping with my pledge to transform the Institution and make it one of the best in the country, Africa and the world at large.
As a citadel of learning, we would have resumed since January 6, 2012. Our will and decision to keep faith with that date was halted by the ongoing ASUU strike Nationwide.
As soon as the strike is called off, the Institution would announce a new date for resumption.
As you prepare to return to the Institution, I charge and implore all students to align their thoughts, actions and aspirations with the set vision of the University, which is all round excellence.

The Institution at inception inherited a full complement of Degree Students in the Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences and Science as well as Staff and Faculties from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.read more..
