Dr. Aniekan Jumbo Etokidem

Dr. Aniekan Jumbo Etokidem is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Calabar and Chief Consultant Community/Public Health Physician at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Nigeria. He studied Medicine at the University of Calabar, Nigeria and was awarded the MBBCh degree. He later obtained the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDipMgt) from the same University.  He had his postgraduate residency training in Public Health Medicine/Community Medicine at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African College of Physicians of the West African Postgraduate Medical College from 2002 to 2008. After successful coursework, examinations and dissertation defense, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Medical College in Public Health (FMCPH). He later obtained certificates in health research ethics from the West African Bioethics Training Program and the University of Miami, Florida. Dr. Etokidem served as Member of the Health Research Ethics Committee of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for five years. He later served as Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences (Now Faculty of Medicine) of the University of Calabar and, thereafter, as Head of Department of Community Medicine of the University of Calabar/University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar. In August 2015, Dr. Etokidem was appointed the Departmental Research Coordinator, a position he has occupied till date. Dr. Etokidem has won research grants from several agencies, including the World Health Organization.
