Dr. Ita Bassey Okokon

Born on June 4, 1955 I am an MB,BS graduate of the University of Ibadan (Nigeria) and a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) in General Medical Practice [FMCGP] by postgraduate training and examinations. I am as well, a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (WACP) in Family Medicine [FWACP FamMed] by election. I am the immediate past Chief Examiner of the Faculty of Family Medicine (Jan2013-Dec2016), West African College of Physicians and currently, the Internal Assessor of Postgraduate Fellowship Examination process in Family Medicine (Jan2017 onwards) for that College.I had served as the first full-time academic staff of the undergraduate Department of Family Medicine of the University of Calabar and Ag. Head of the Department (Formerly: Dept. of General Medical Practice), for ten years (1996-2006), building up the now blossoming Department, which was then popularly recognized as a “one-man Department” in the College of Medical Sciences of the University of Calabar.Currently, I have thirty-three (33) publications in well-referenced medical journals to my credit; and have attended several national and internal scientific conferences and presented papers in some of them. I have led and served in many accreditation committees to validate training facilities for the NPMCN and the WACP postgraduate training programmes in Family Medicine for the requisite Colleges. Also, I am an Honorary Consultant Family Physician to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar and the Chairman of Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit [ACTU]- an arm of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of the Federal Government of Nigeria, in this Hospital.
