philipbassey@unical.edu.ng

Before joining the University as a lecturer in Public Health, I had worked with the Cross River State Ministry of Health. Between 2003 to 2004 I was a member of the Cross River State Clinical Governance Team that developed evidenced-based treatment guidelines for the management of common diseases identified in the State. From Jan 2006 - March 2008, I was engaged as a WHO National Professional Officer for HIV/AIDS. In the course of my work with WHO, I participated in adaptation of the WHO Generic IMAI Training manuals to the Nigerian context for use in providing comprehensive HIV/AIDS care in Nigeria. From May 2010 to September 2012, I worked with the DFID-Funded Malaria Control Support Programme (SUNMAP) during which time I supported the development of the Draft National Procurement, Supply and Management (PSM) framework for Malaria Commodities for Nigeria as well as working versions of the National Training Modules for Malaria service delivery (Case management) which is being used for training health care providers Nigeria. I joined the University in January 2013 and have participated in all the academic activities of the institution including teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels; supervising the research work of students at both levels; attendance and presentation at conferences; and contributing to the writing and editing of a book by WHO on Food security and Health in Africa.
