Medicine

The name Faculty of Medicine came into effect with the adoption of the new College statute of 15th February, 2013. It was formerly known as the Faculty of Clinical Sciences when the Collegiate System in the Medical School came into being in the year 2000.

The Faculty coordinates teaching, research and examinations for the 3 years of Clinical training of medical students. These consist of didactic lectures; teaching by the bedside during ward rounds; theatre sessions in the operating rooms and consultations in the out-patient units; as well as investigative and autopsy sessions.

The students are attached to Lecturers/Consultants as they rotate from one unit to another; marks/grades are awarded during their rotations in accordance with the student’s performance.

The Faculty started with nine departments, but following the re-accreditation and restructuring exercise by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the number of the departments increased to fourteen; and the last academic session three new departments were added bringing the number of the departments to seventeen.
