Muhammadu Buhari was born on 17 December 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, to his father Adamu and mother Zulaihat. He is the twenty-third child of his father. Buhari was raised by his mother, after his father died when he was about four years old.
He attended primary school in Daura and Mai'adua before proceeding to Katsina Model School in 1953, and Katsina Provincial Secondary School (now Government College Katsina) from 1956 to 1961. He then joined the Nigerian Military Training School in Kaduna, where his military career began.
He ran unsuccessfully for the office of President in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections. In December 2014, he emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the March 2015 elections. Buhari won the 2015 general election, defeating the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, thus marking the first time in Nigeria's history that an incumbent President was defeated in an election by the leader of the opposition. He was sworn in on 29 May 2015.
I am immensely grateful to God Who Has preserved us to witness this day and this occasion. Today marks a triumph for Nigeria and an occasion to celebrate her freedom and cherish her democracy.

Chief (Dr). Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu was born on 4 September 1942 in Atta, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State of Nigeria. He studied Civil Engineering at the University of Nigeria Nsukka and thereafter worked at the Hardel and Enic Construction Company, later acquiring it from the foreign operators. His business grew into a conglomerate of over 20 companies.
He had a promising political career and at different times ran for the office of the presidency of Nigeria.
He also has held several political offices for the Nigerian government, notably in sports administration and management of federal roads maintenance.
He founded the Iwuanyanwu Nationale Football Club (now Heartland F.C.), which won several national and international championships.
As of March 2011 he has been the Executive Chairman and publisher of Champion Newspapers
Prof. James Epoke was born on 21st April, 1954. He had his First School Leaving Certificate in 1964 at Imabana and his secondary school education from 1965 – 1971 at Community Secondary School Ugep where he obtained his WASC Certificate with flying colors in Division 1.
With such brilliant result, he pursued his tertiary education. In 1974, young James secured admission into the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and obtained B. Sc. (Microbiology) with Second Class (Upper Division). In 1983, he obtained his M. Sc. (Microbiology) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and bagged his Ph. D.(Medical Microbiology) in 1990 from the College of Medicine, University of Calabar.
Prior to his appointment, Prof. James Epoke has served the University in various capacity as Head of Department, Sub Dean, Member of Senate, Chairman of ASUU Strategic Plan Review Committee (2007 -2010), Chairman of University of Calabar Senior Staff Club Electoral Committee (2004 - 2010), Dean, Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, Member, University of Calabar College of Medical Sciences, Board of Governors and Member of council.
Prof. James Epoke has also served his state at various levels as member of the state Onchocerciasis Programme, Disaster Relief Committee, State Transition Committee on Health, State Opinion Leaders for the Resolution of Niger Delta Crisis and National Expert Committee on Serological Surveillance (1993 - 1999).

10TH VICE CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR
Born 56yrs ago, young Zana began his academic sojourn of excellence at the primary School Ipong 1 in Obudu where he obtained a merit grade in the First School Leaving Certificate Exams in 1971.
In 1977 at the Famous Mary Knoll College, Okuku-Ogoja (now Yala), he bagged Division One in the West African School Certificate Exams (W.A.S.C.E.) His secondary school feat was followed by a: B. A. (Hons) in French, Second Class Upper Division in 1982, UNICAL, M. A. (French) in 1985, UNICAL and Ph. D. (African and Caribbean Literatures in French) in 1995, UNIBEN.
Prof. Akpagu won the Dr. E. N. Amaku prize for Best Graduating Student in Languages, UNICAL, 1982.
Prof Zana’s working career has revolved round three different universities. They include University Of Benin, University of Uyo (Defunct UNICROSS) and University of Calabar.
In UNIUYO, he served as Graduate Assistant (1984-1985), Assistant Lecturer (1985-1991) and Lecturer II (1991-1994) and in UNIBEN as Lecturer I (1998-2004) from where he took up appointment as senior Lecturer in 1998 in UNICAL.
He continued this steady ascension in his career and was appointed professor on 1st October, 2007, a position that he holds till today.
Prof Zana Akpagu is a member of several professional bodies and a recipient of many awards. The multitudinous awards clearly underlie his massive contributions in the Gown and Town domain.
The 10th Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar has served his people in different capacities as ; One Time Commissioner of Education, Cross River State (2001-2003), an erstwhile Special Adviser to Governor of Cross River State on Inter-Governmental Affairs (2007-2010) and also former Special Adviser to the Governor, Special Duties (2010-2012)
He has served the University of Calabar extensively as; Head of Department, Dean of Students’ Affairs, Member Governing Council, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
Professor Zana Itiunbe Akpagu, the 10th Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar also holds the enviable historical record of being the Pioneer Alumnus Vice Chancellor of UNICAL.
This quintessential community leader who holds the traditional title of Ushikebe 1 of Ipong can best be described as a Genteel figure, a Dandy personality, a rallying point for forward looking minds, a strong fatherhood figure, a highly revered Obudu Son, a great community mobilizer, a true Cross Riverian, an exemplary leader, a rallying point for the youths and a worthy professor of French in the Department of Modern Languages and Translation, UNICAL.

Prof. Florence B. Obi is the substantive Unical DVC Academic appointed by the 10th Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar Prof. Zana Akpagu.
The former Dean, Faculty of Education is a Specialist in Psychology and Special Needs Education and was born on the 19th September, 1957. Prof. Florence Obi attended St. Bridget’s Primary School Ogeb Osokom, Boki where she obtained her First school Leaving Certificate in 1969. From there she proceeded to St. Thomas’s Teachers Training College, Ogoja; Cross River State and obtained her Teacher Grade Certificate II in 1993.
Due to her deep rooted interest in education, she never stopped at T.C II level and so decided to further her studies in the University of Jos where she bagged her B.Ed (Hons) in Special Education in 1988, M.Ed Special Education in 1990 and a PGCEE in 1993 from Jordan Hill College of Education, Glascow, Scotland.
In 2002, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, added to her academic qualifications, a PhD in Psychology of Education from the University of Calabar.
She started her lecturing career as Assistant Lecturer in the University of Calabar in 1990-1993 from where she rose to the rank of Professor in 2007 after successfully growing through the ranks in the profession.
Prof. Florence Obi has held different significant positions in the Institution before ascending to her present position.

Professor Ndifreke Udonwa is an amiable and very congenial professional and hails from Ikot Esen Oku village in Etinan local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria.
The very erudite Professor of family Medicine was born on the 17th day of March, 1952 and his academic Odyssey saw him traverse through St. Thomas Primary School, Ikot Eba and St. Paul’s Primary School, Ikot Esen Oku all in his native Etinan Local government Area where he bagged his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC).
Having concluded that phase of schooling, he enrolled into the Prestigious Regina Coeli College in Essene, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area and passed his West Africa School Certificate Grade 1 and GCE (O level), proceeding thereafter to the College of Science and Technology (now University of Science and Technology) Port Harcourt, Rivers State for his London GCE (A level).
His insatiable quest for more knowledge saw him gain admission at various times into the College of Medicine, University of Laos, National Postgraduate Medical College, Lagos and the University of Calabar where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MB;BS), Fellowship of the Medical College in General Medical Practice (FMCGP) fellowship of the West African College of Physicians in family Medicine (FWACP) and Master of Public Health (MPH)
Professor Ndifreke Udonwa, who is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration of the University of Calabar also attended high profile Management courses at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, as well as, other capacity building workshops and conferences, both locally and international resulting in the acquisition of about 22 other certificates.
The vastly experienced academic has served the society in various capacities including; Maritime Officer, Nigerian Custom Service, Registrar, Senior Registrar, Coordinating consultant, Rural Health Service, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee and Consultant, Family Physician, all in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) amongst others.
Prof. Udonwa has also served in the Republic of Seychelles’ Ministry of Health as, Principal Officer (consultant) PHC, Consultant, Communicable Disease Control Unit, Victoria Hospitals, Acting Consultant–in–charge, Centre for Diseases, Prevention and Control and Medical Consultant, Primary Health Care (PHC).

The academic icon’s contribution to the body of knowledge is indeed multi-faceted: he presently is involved in 2 ongoing research work including, “Personal, Family and Environmental Determinant of Juvenile Delinquency among Semi Adolescent in South-Southern Nigeria” and “Using GUT Parasites and CD4 Count as an Indicator to commence ARVs amongst HIV Seropositive Patients in Underserved Areas”.
Prof. Udonwa has supervised 5 Dissertations and Case Books; presented over 10 papers in conferences and workshops; 15 and 23 Articles in local and foreign learned journals respectively and published 2 academic Dissertations in his area of interest which is Primary Care and Socio-Behavioral Medicine.
Prof. Ndifreke Udonwa, a socially highly integrated persona is the President, Regina Coeli College Old Boys Association, Patron, Police Inspectors Mess, Calabar, Catholic Knight of the Order of St Mulumba and current Chancellor of the Calabar Metropolitan Council.

The University of Calabar has announced the appointment of a substantive Registrar in the person of Mr. Abang, Moses Owan.
Mr. Abang who takes over from Dr. (Mrs.) Julia D. Omang; having completed her term in office, was until his recent appointment the Deputy Registrar, Senior Establishment of the University.
Born in Abo-Mkpang in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, Mr. Abang attended the Prestigious Boki Boys Secondary School, Okundi-Boki between 1975 and 1979 and in 1987, the ebullient administrator graduated with B.Sc (Hon) Degree in Education/Political Science from the University of Calabar.
His insatiable quest for knowledge saw him enroll for Post Graduate Studies in the University of Calabar where he obtained a Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1993.
Moses Abang's industry and diligence has seen him rise from a humble beginning as an auxiliary teacher, in Community Secondary School Okangha in Ikom, Cross River State through being a Clerical Officer in the Unical and rising to the post of Deputy Registrar, Senior Establishment, from where he was appointed Registrar via a rigorous process that saw him edge out other candidates.
The new Registrar has served in almost all sections of the University including Information Officer, Faculty Officer of various Faculties and Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor.

The Bursar of the University of Calabar, Mr. Peter Amama Agi Until his recent appointment, was a Chief Accountant with the University and hails from Yala Local Government Area in Cross River State.
He has a B.Sc (honours) in Accounting from the University of Calabar, obtained in 1998 and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2006 from the University of Lagos.
Mr. Peter Agi who became an Associate Chartered Accountant with ICAN in 2005, is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
He has garnered experience on the job as an Accountant right from his NYSC days where he served as an Accounts Clerk with the Central Bank of Nigeria. Between 2000–2003, he worked with All States Trust Bank as a Branch Operations Staff/Reconciliation Officer and then in the Compliance/Management Information Unit/Financial Department
He joined Council PLC as an Accounts payable Accountant in 2003 and rose to become Regional Accountant of the foremost oil company in 2007.

The current University Librarian, Dr Nkoyo Bassey Edem (CLN) is the fourth Librarian of the University of Calabar. She is the second female to occupy that office after her immediate predecessor, Dr (Mrs) Ruth Simon Bassey.
An indigene of Ishie Clan, Calabar Municipality of Cross River State, Nkoyo Edem joined the services of the University of Calabar as a graduate Assistant in 1994 and was deployed to the University Library. She was upgraded to Assistant Librarian in 1999, promoted to the post of Librarian 11 in 2002, Librarian 1 in 2006, Senior Lecturer in 2009 and Deputy University Librarian in 2011, an office she occupied until her recent elevation.
Dr Nkoyo Edem has served the Library Department in various capacities ranging from Head, Reference & Bibliographic Services Division (2003-2006), Head, Africana Division (2006-2007), Head, Technical Services Acquisition (Processing and Bindery),2007, Head, World Bank Depository Unit in addition to serving as Library Representative to several Faculties.
Prior to her Working Career, Nkoyo had distinguished herself academically with a B.Sc (Fisheries) degree in 1990 from the then University of Cross River (now UNIUYO) . This was followed with MLS (Library Science) in 1999 from University of Ibadan and rounded up with a Ph.D (Library and Information Science) in 2006 from University of Uyo.
